How Oman gratuity is calculated
New law (service from 1 August 2023): gratuity is one full month of your last basic salary for each year of service, with part years in proportion. Old law (service before August 2023): 15 days of basic salary per year for the first 3 years and 30 days per year after. If your service spans both periods, calculate each period separately and add them. From July 2027, a mandatory savings scheme begins replacing direct gratuity for new accrual.
Worked example
Basic salary OMR 500, 4 years under the new law: 4 × OMR 500 = OMR 2,000. Under the old law the same service would be: daily wage 500 ÷ 30 = OMR 16.67; first 3 years 45 days + year 4 at 30 days = 75 days × 16.67 = OMR 1,250.
