Sending your gratuity home: how to lose less
When a Gulf job ends, many expats send a large lump sum home in one transfer. Three rules save real money: (1) compare the total received, not the headline fee — a “zero fee” service with a 1% worse rate costs more on big amounts; (2) for amounts above roughly 10,000 AED/SAR, exchange houses and specialist apps almost always beat bank wires; (3) avoid converting twice (for example AED → USD → PKR) — always send directly in one pair.
